If you're reaching pension age note that you can apply for the pension 3 months before reaching pension age. You should apply early (subject to your situation) as it can take months before your pension application is approved. By applying early, in May, I received my first pension payments about two weeks after turning 67 in August, although it did take nearly another year for Centrelink to correctly apply the Work Bonus. It would have taken longer if I didn't keep trying to get them to do a review and was lucky one person requested the review. The original request for review was never actioned. The Heidelberg Centrelink office was no help at all and quite depressing. Calling the older persons help line is where I eventually got assistance. It's disheartening, but don't give up until they get everything right. |
